The Mission of Middle School Art
The mission of the visual arts middle school program is to develop visually literate and aesthetically sensitive students who function in society as producers, appreciators, and consumers of art, capable of making informed judgments that enhance the quality of their lives. It is the visual world that gives children information about color, shape, and form for new experiences. All students, regardless of their backgrounds, talent, disabilities, deserve access to the rich education and understandings that the visual arts provide.
An art curriculum provides the students with attitudes, feeling, emotions, and intuition; as well as perception, forms, and images in our visual environment. Students imagine, create and reflect, they develop both verbal and nonverbal skills necessary for life-long learners.
